How to Bake Cod
Baking cod doesn’t always work for everyone. You have to find the perfect technique that suits your tastebuds and cooking style, or you’ll be left with a burnt mess in no time at all!
Follow these steps when baking this delicious fish:
- The perfect baked cod starts with preheating the oven to 400°F or 205°C.
- Heat up a good quality oven prove skillet and add some high-quality butter to it.
- As the butter begins to sizzle, place your cod fillet in the skillet with skin side first and bake for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Cover you skillet with alminium foil.
- After 3 to 4 minutes, place the skillet in a preheated oven for another 7-8 minutes.
Is it better to bake fish covered or uncovered?
Covering your fish in foil while baking helps to create a steaming effect which will cut down on cooking time and keep the flavors of the fish inside. If you want your baked fish golden brown, never cover it with aluminum foil when putting it into an oven for baking.
When do you know your cod is cooked
The best way to tell if your cod is done cooking? Just take a fork and put it on the side of the fish, pushing gently. When you feel that it easily flakes apart then congratulations! Your fish is ready to serve.
How do you cook cod that’s not rubbery?
A good way to make sure your fish is cooked through properly and flakes easily when you’re baking it, for every inch of thickness use 10 minutes. For a half-inch fillet only 5 minutes will do the trick.
